2006年由上海交通大学引进。2009年获得IEEE通信学会亚太区杰出青年研究奖（IEEE ComSoc Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award 2009）。长期以来从事无线网路编码，认知无线电的研究。2007年于国外出版英文专着《Wired and Wireless Networks: A Transport Layer Perspective》（VDM Verlag Publisher, ISBN: 978-3-8364-2772-2）。在IEEE杂誌和会议等发表论文60余篇，申请专利10余项。承担国家自然科学基金、重点，科技部国际合作基金，教育部博士点、回国留学人员基金，上海市浦江人才、科技创新重点项目等10余项。曾获IEEE IPCCC“最佳论文奖”。王新兵
曾在多个着名国际会议、期刊上发布论文，包括：网路研究的知名国际会议ACM MobiCom 2009，ACM MobiHoc 2009、2008，IEEE INFOCOM 2005；无线通信网路的国际核心期刊如IEEE Trans on Networking 2008，IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing 2009，IEEE Trans on Wireless Communications 2009、2008、2007。
同时担任多个国内外杂誌、中国计算机学会（CCF）A类期刊IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing，ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks的编委。
发表网路研究的A类国际会议ACM MobiCOM 2012、2009,2014, 2015, IEEE INFOCOM 2014，2015，2016，2017等20余篇, IEEE彙刊长文(regular paper)50余篇，其中无线网路的A类国际期刊如IEEE/ACM Trans on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing，IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed System等20余篇。申请国家专利30余项（其中美国专利1项)，授权15项。
Google Scholar引用统计超过5800次，H-index 39，入选爱思唯尔（ELSEVIER）发布的2014、2015、2016、2017中国高被引学者榜单。
2015年出版教材《移动网际网路导论》。2017年出版《移动网际网路导论》第二版。
